I've worked as an illustrator for 18 years, for clients including Penguin, the Folio Society, National Geographic and Lucasfilm, on everything from the Dune deluxe editions to film posters, book covers & more. I've also written three published books of my own.
That combination is really why I get the work I do. Most of what I'm hired for comes down to interpretation: reading a story closely, finding the atmosphere underneath it, and carrying that feeling into a single image. Being a writer as well as an illustrator is a large part of how I do that, and it's the part I most enjoy talking about.
A Session is an hour - one to one and online - spent on whatever would help you most. That might be your portfolio and where to take it, a project you're in the middle of, questions about materials and technique, or a straight conversation about the working life of an illustrator: clients, pricing, and finding your footing. You set the direction, I'll bring 18 years of doing it for a living.
Areas I can help with:
Reading a brief or a text and finding the image inside it
Portfolio review and where to take your work
Concept development and finding ideas
Technique and process
The business: clients, pricing, and building a career
